Car accident in British Columbia injures 5

A serious two-car crash on the early morning of Nov. 27 has sent five people to the hospital, according to police authorities. Officers in Richmond, British Columbia, responded to the car accident around 1 a.m. So far, they have not filed charges against either of the drivers involved in the crash, but they are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident and charges may yet be forthcoming.

Police have confirmed that two vehicles were involved in the crash, though they have not identified any of the individuals involved by name. The accident occurred on Highway 91, not far from the Highway 99 off-ramp, though the specifics of the crash itself have not been commented upon publicly. One of the passengers in one of the two vehicles was trapped until extricated by firefighters.

Of the five people injured, British Columbia Ambulance Service confirmed that one was rushed to the hospital with injuries described as serious. The other four were also transported to a hospital, but their conditions were described as stable. The police investigation closed the highway in both directions for several hours.

The results of that investigation have not been made public, but British Columbia RCMP has not filed formal charges against anyone involved at this time. When they have determined the cause of the car accident, charges may be filed. Even if they are not, injured parties are entitled under provincial law to file personal injury lawsuits in a civil court setting against the driver or drivers believed to be responsible.
