Woman killed in car accident in British Columbia

One woman is dead following a serious accident that occurred on Highway 1 on Aug. 23, local police have reported. The fatal car accident involved three vehicles and occurred at approximately 7:45 a.m. British Columbia police are asking the support of the community in determining the cause of the crash, and they have yet to file charges against anyone involved.

According to the accident report, the crash involved three vehicles and took place in the westbound lanes of Highway 1 in Chilliwack. Of the three vehicles involved, one landed on its roof in a ditch. The RCMP are in the process of examining the crash scene in order to determine what happened.

It has been confirmed that one woman, 30 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene by the British Columbia Coroner's Service. Two other individuals who remain publicly unidentified are said to have been taken to a local hospital with injuries described as minor. Both of those individuals were subsequently released. Police have asked anyone with knowledge of the crash to contact Fraser Valley Traffic Services to aid in the ongoing investigation.

Until British Columbia police determine what caused the fatal car accident, no charges are likely to be filed. If it is discovered that one or more of the drivers involved contributed materially to the crash, that individual or individuals could face criminal charges. Even if no criminal charges are filed, the family of the deceased woman may be entitled under provincial law to file a wrongful death suit against anyone police believe to be materially responsible for the accident.
