2 injured in British Columbia car accident; saved by band

Two band members are being lauded as heroes after rescuing two individuals from a burning vehicle in the early morning of Oct. 9. British Columbia authorities have not yet divulged the details of the car accident that very nearly claimed the lives of two people. They have also not filed charges against the driver involved in the crash.

According to the report, an unknown driver lost control of a vehicle in Langley, causing it to leave the roadway and crash into a street lamp. The force of the impact set the car on fire, which is when two members of a local band noticed the blaze. The two bystanders then worked to pull both individuals, a driver and a passenger, out of the vehicle before it became fully engulfed.

Medical professionals arriving on the scene treated both occupants of the vehicle for injuries and then took them by ambulance to a local hospital. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time. It is also unknown if either band member suffered injuries in their efforts to rescue the pair. Police do not know what caused the accident, but the band members say it appeared the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when the accident happened.

British Columbia police will continue to investigate the car accident and make use of the band members' eyewitness testimony as part of that investigation. If it becomes clear the driver was operating the vehicle recklessly or negligently, that driver might face criminal charges. The passenger who was injured in the crash is entitled under provincial law to file a personal injury suit against the driver for the injuries he or she suffered in the accident as well.
