1 dead in fatal trucking accident in British Columbia

A 30-year-old man is dead following a tragic crash involving a logging truck in Hatzic Lake, according to local sources. British Columbia authorities are still investigating the fatal trucking accident, which closed the highway for several hours. Criminal charges are not likely in this case, as the driver responsible was killed in the crash.

According to the accident report, the 30-year-old was traveling on Highway 7 when for reasons unknown he crossed the center line into the oncoming lane. His vehicle collided head-on with a logging truck carrying some 30 logs, which spilled all over the highway. The resulting damage backed up traffic on the highway for 10 hours while police investigated.

The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. The condition of the truck driver is unknown at this time. Police are still trying to ascertain why the other driver drifted into oncoming traffic, but they have yet to publicly announce the reason why. They have not ruled out mechanical failure or a medical condition as possible causes for the crash.

In a fatal trucking accident, a great many factors must be considered by British Columbia police over the course of their investigation. It is possible the driver was simply negligent or behaving recklessly; if this is the case, the driver of the logging truck may be in a position to sue for personal injury if he or she suffered injury in the crash. If the cause is found to have been mechanical, the family of the deceased driver may be able to sue the car company or the parties responsible for the car's maintenance. In cases such as this, only a thorough investigation will reveal the details necessary to predict the next steps in the legal process.
