Airbag recall expanded

As years have passed cars have become safer to drive. The standard installation of airbags is one reason why. When they work as intended, their presence could minimize the severity of the injuries a vehicle occupant suffers in a crash. They may even save a life. On the other hand, defects with an airbag could actually be deadly.

Readers are likely aware of the recall of Takata airbags. The issue prompting the recall is the force at which the bag inflators explode. Throughout the course of the last few years, the recall has been expanded globally and includes those being driven throughout Canada. Worldwide, more than 100 people have been hurt and at least 11 people have died.

Earlier this week the recall was expanded once again. Up to another 40 million air bag inflators are included in this recall. The United States government estimates it could take through 2019 to complete the replacement of all of the defective inflators. Because the problem is less likely to occur in newer vehicles and those driven in less humid climates, the recall is first focusing on automobiles that are over six years old and located in areas such as the gulf coast and Florida, in the U.S.

When a product defect is to blame for a serious injury or death the parties responsible for the defect may be held responsible. Because cases of this nature are generally complex, it is advisable to work with a lawyer who has a thorough understanding of the matters that need to be addressed.
